Though perhaps less famous than its celebrated Tank watch, Cartier’s Santos was launched long before its flagship model. The Santos has its origins in 1904 when Louis Cartier, grandson of the company’s founder, Louis-Francois, created a watch specifically for his friend, the renowned Brazilian aviator, Alberto Santos Dumont. Requiring a timepiece that was robust, legible and more accessible than a cumbersome pocket watch, Dumont consulted his friend who designed the Santos, now a distinctive and timeless classic with its 6-screw bezel and square case. First commercially produced in 1911, it has been a mainstay in Cartier’s catalogue ever since. This Cartier Santos WSSA0009 has a Silver Roman Numeral dial and a Bracelet strap.
